Abstract

I was pleased to read this critical examination of osteopathic foundational assumptions and how they play out in the profession. As an author of two new stand-alone courses for Canada's first degree program in osteopathy [ [1] Bachelor of Osteopathy [Internet]. [cited 2023 May 5]. Available from: https://www.sheridancollege.ca/programs/bachelor-science-osteopathy. Google Scholar ], I am highly supportive of ongoing critical self-reflection in the profession. One of the courses is Critical Thinking, which requires active analysis and improvement of one's own thinking [ [2] Critical Thinking: Tools for Taking Charge of Your Learning & Your Life - 4th Edition | Critical Thinking [Internet]. [cited 2023 May 29]. Available from: https://www.criticalthinking.org/store/products/critical-thinking-tools-for-taking-chargeyour-learning-amp-your-life-4th-edition/143. Google Scholar ]. This article provides a necessary set of questions and conditions for us to apply intellectual standards like fairness, leading to development of confidence in reason, by examining and changing how and what we think of osteopathy.
