Abstract

At the meeting of the International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurements (I.C.R.U.) in July, 1974, the extensive worldwide response to the previous correspondence on SI units (Lidén, 1973; 1974) was discussed in considerable detail. A statement on SI units was then prepared and sent to the International Committee of Weights and Measures, C.I.P.M. for consideration. In this statement the I.C.R.U. recommended the adoption of special names for the SI unit the joule per kilogram, J/kg, when applied to absorbed dose and related quantities, and for the SI unit the reciprocal second, s−1, when applied to the quantity activity as a measure of the rate of spontaneous nuclear transformation of radioactive nuclides.
