Abstract

To comply with the International Atomc Energy Agency recommendations, radioactive material containers for shipment purposes should satisfy heat transfer requirements. The source transfer container in the Ontario Cancer Institute was built to service 60Co source transfer and shipment, and has been in use for almost ten years. It has a total weight of more than two tons, and a surface area of 12·6 sq. ft. Owing to the simplicity in design, it is possible to measure the surface temperature of the source directly.
