Abstract

The number of abortions performed on British residents has remained virtually unchanged since 1972. Increases recorded have been confined to patients coming from countries in Europe. Recent abortion law reforms in France and Germany will predictably reduce this number. 1974 showed a 17 percent increase over 1973 in women from Ireland. Changing the Abortion Act to keep out patients from overseas has been advocated by a member of Parliament but the legality of such a change is doubtful.
