Abstract
I was sad to read of Phil Peverley’s comments in the story ‘GP slams referrals to nurses for putting patients at risk’ (Primary Health Care, (news 21,3,4) which are bound to undermine the confidence of advanced nurse practitioners. It appears he has not had the chance to work with an advanced nurse practitioner who will have many years of experience and will have studied at master’s level. I agree with him that a three-month conversion course would be inadequate to prepare for the role of advanced nurse practitioner.
