Abstract

Before I outline the excellent manuscripts in this edition of the Cardiovascular Digital Health Journal (CVDHJ), I want to ask that you check out our recurring podcast series by the intrepid Dr Hamid Ghanbari. In this edition of CVDHJ, we have a number of fantastic manuscripts, including a major white paper from the Heart Rhythm Society, and 2 innovative study protocols for clinical trials involving an electronic health record intervention and a wearable device for atrial fibrillation detection. The “Patient Corner” piece in this edition is written by Ms Trudie Lobban, who gives us her informed views on why patients with heart rhythm disease have embraced digital technologies during the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. We feature an excellent manuscript by Ms Victoria Bartlett, who shows that personal devices and patient-reported data from digital devices can provide key insights into postprocedural recovery after atrial fibrillation ablation. Ms Emily Dickson describes the design of the Pulsewatch Study, an ongoing multiphase randomized controlled trial examining the accuracy and usability of a smartwatch for atrial fibrillation detection among stroke survivors. We are proud to share the study protocol of the SUPPORT-AF (Supporting Use of Anticoagulants Through Provider Profiling of Oral Anticoagulant Therapy for Atrial Fibrillation) IV Trial, which is a clinical study evaluating the impact of an electronic health record intervention to support the use of anticoagulants for atrial fibrillation. Finally, we publish a critical white paper from the Heart Rhythm Society’s Digital Health Committee. This important piece was led by Dr Elaine Wan and focuses on clinical utilization of digital health technologies for the treatment of arrhythmias. It undoubtedly will be highly cited, as it provides practical guidance to clinicians caring for patients with heart rhythm disorders. I hope you enjoy this latest edition of the journal. We at the CVDHJ greatly appreciate our wonderful reviewers, authors, and growing family of readers. We wish you a wonderful summer and hope you get some time to rest, read, and learn!
