Abstract
Reports on Cholera—Cholera in Europe in 1884 and 1885—The Inspection of Ports—The Origin of Cholera. A supplement containing Reports and Papers on Cholera, submitted by the medical officer of the Local Government Board, has just been issued in connection with the fifteenth annual report of that department. This bulky volume, in addition to the report of Dr. Buchanan, contains a voluminous appendix. To this Dr.Thorne contributes an account of cholera in Europe in 1884 and 1885. He also reports the proceedings of the International Sanitary Conference, held at Rome in the last-named year. Dr. Ballard writes regarding the sanitary survey made in England in anticipation of cholera outbreak in 1856-86. Dr. Blaxall reports on the like inspection of ports and riparian districts, and Dr. Klein concludes the volume with an interesting paper on the question of cholera as a germ produced disease. In one way this Report is highly reassuring
