To the Editor: I read with interest the article showing substantially reduced mortality for patients who were given statins either prestroke or shortly after onset in a cohort of 448 incident ischemic stroke patients from Dublin, Ireland.1 The 28-day and 90-day case fatality rates in the overall cohort were 12.3% and 17.8%, respectively, which are similar to estimates derived from other contemporary cohort studies.2–4 It is of interest, however, to examine the Kaplan-Meier survival curves in Figure 2, which show that the group not treated …
