Abstract

This article shows the various control signals that are usually used for dimming ballasts and the criteria for the microcontroller to distinguish the signals. The dimming interface is a manufacturer-specific digital interface that is implemented in digital controlled ballasts. Dimming interface can protect the overvoltage by use of high-voltage current limiter circuit. Features of dimming interface, measurement techniques for analog values with the digital input port of a microcontroller are also discussed.
