Abstract

Thirty years have elapsed since the Lushan Plenum was held in 1959. What occurred at Lushan had a profound and tremendous impact on the course of the development of contemporary Chinese history. Following the Plenum, class struggle began to escalate, both in theory and in practice, and then penetrated into the Party, eventually leading to the outbreak of the decade-long upheaval—the Cultural Revolution.
