Abstract
Prison health care and mental health care services have been a subject of considerable international investigation, and the position and attitudes of workforce have always played an important part in them. The discussion about the organization of mental health service provision in prisons is an important one on the offender health agenda, yet this discussion does not tell us much about those who work in the system. What does it mean to be a prison mental health professional in different cultures? How have global economic changes affected prison mental health care service delivery internationally? Is prison nursing universally challenging? These are some of the issues that this editorial will focus on.
