Abstract
Lesbians contribute immensely to the existence of the women-only public sphere in (West) Germany by creating public spaces for women. The process of acquiring space and creating and maintaining a variety of organizations is accompanied by acquiring space in the symbolic realm of society: lesbians initiate discourses on a variety of issues, define needs which they also fulfill in a variety of projects.
