Abstract
Abstract Remains of two species of turtles have been found in the fauna of Castiglione (Oletta, Corsica) from the Middle Pleistocene: Emys orbicularis (the ‘European pond turtle') and Testudo hermanni (the ‘Hermann's tortoise') which had never been found in Corsica from the Pleistocene. This new discovery allows us to state with certainty that both species are indigenous to Corsica, as they were present well before any possible human intervention.
