Abstract

Vladimíra Spilková "New educational methods” in the Czech Republic after 1989 and practical attempts to set them up in the fundamental schools. The goal of this article is to explain the main processes of transformation of the Czech school system after 1989 (in relation to the big political changes) by highlighting the changes made in the field of fundamental education. The study of the changing processes is directed towards three main points: goals of educational policies, theoretical starting points and main ideas of the school system reform, and practical attempts at transforming, taking into account the reality of school teaching. Three main trends, progressively implemented in education policies (often as divergent principles), are presented here: •New educational methods”, the •new” conception of school teaching, and teaching and learning in specialized, mainly Czech literature of the last decade. To conclude, the main orientations and attempts to set up the •new educational methods” in practice in fundamental schools, including the problems preventing them from being set to work better on a larger scale, are herein discussed.
