Abstract

The management of atrial fibrillation has evolved considerably with the development of ablation with isolation of the pulmonary veins in all cases, sometimes with the creation of other lesions in the left atrium. The ablation of the atrial fibrillation is more effective to maintain the sinus rhythm than antiarrhythmic drugs in case of paroxysmal or persistent atrial fibrillation Several techniques have been used to date: radiofrequency, cryoablation and, more recently, electroporation. This article summarizes the ablation procedures and describes the 3 types of energy available.
