Abstract

Abstract. — The method of grain size image (Passega) is applied to the study of fine-grained alluvial deposits in the plains of the French upper Rhône river. It provides a simple criterion for discriminating the ecological units, demonstrates the spatial variability of grain-size distribution (influence of slope and fluvial models) and the thining of the load since the 19th century.
