Abstract
The present article deals with the horsetails (Equisetaceae) in Luxembourg. Since there has been some incoherent information in historic publications and the databases, a detailed analysis of the available literature, databases and herbarium material was carried out to clarify the facts. In Luxembourg, eight different horsetails are known: Equisetum arvense L., E. palustre L., E. fluviatile L., E. sylvaticum L., E. telmateia Ehrh. for the subgenus Equisetum and E. hyemale L. for the subgenus Hippochaete as well as two hybrids: Equisetum ×litorale Kühlew. ex Rupr. and Equisetum ×moorei Newman. A description of the different taxa, information on their distribution in Luxembourg and a historic overview of some of their uses are given. Finally, the check list and the red list for the horsetails of Luxembourg are updated.
