Abstract

The development of supportive care pathways comes up against the importance of the needs and the difficulties of financing the necessary means. The new digital tools for symptom monitoring represent a way forward, the development of which is promoted in France by the establishment of a suitable regulatory framework. These tools allow the collection of symptomatic complaints by patients by avoiding the distorting prism of caregivers, and remote access in real time to these data. The main randomised clinical studies assessing their efficacy have clearly shown their positive impact on the quality of life and satisfaction of cancer patients, especially in the advanced phase. It also shows a reduction of emergency consultations, the increase of the intensity dose of oncology treatments actually received and a better overall survival. Nevertheless, barriers persist with regard to their deployment; the constraints linked to the lack of capacity of certain patients (elderly, disabled, disadvantaged) to use these tools; the insufficient political impetus of hospital leaders; the numerous persistent questions about the implementation modalities, requiring the continuation of clinical studies in this field.1877-1203/© 2023 SPLF.
