Abstract

ABSTRACT The Usclades shelter, excavated from 1988 to 1992, has given a superposition of Chalcolithic, early Neolithic and Sauveterrian settlements in the upper levels of the site. The Chalcolithic, with locally specific traits, is typical of Grands Causses country. The early Neolithic belongs to a late phase impressed pottery of the Roucadourian culture. The Sauveterrian, rich in scalene triangles and all other microliths like triangles of Montclus, but very poor in large tools like all other Mesolithic sites in this region, presents native characters specific to a defined area.
