Abstract

This paper presents a general analysis of two different approachs, appeared in distinct historical periods, which have in commun to establish a alternative to the statonational model of political organization of contemporary european societies. The austro marxist (Otto Bauer and Karl Renner) multinational state theory, as well as Jürgen Habermas' constitutional patriotism are major responses to interrogations about the future of european states. As a matter of fact, they are both confronted to the effervescence of their national components and the perspective of the european political integration. The latter needs the constitution of a corpus of organizational norms et common values which presupposes to pass beyond communautarist attitudes.
