Abstract

The statistical analysis of the information given by the security cards of the Jews of Paris during the reign of terror shows an important immigration in 1793, referring to the high number of marriages and circumcisions in 1793 and 1794. This demographic increase does not go with a swift evolution of the geography of residence, nor about the socio-professional classes, the newer immigrants remaining limited to the old crafts related to pedlers without availing themselves of the new professional opportunities following the emancipation.
