Abstract

ABSTRACT Nowhere in the European Community are Japanese investments more massive than in the United Kingdom. A large proportion are concentrated in manufacturing industries, particularly consumer electronics, electronic components and car making. The regions that most benefited from Japanese inward investments are the Scottish Lowlands, North East England, the West Midlands, North East and South Wales. More recently, Japanese capital has been invested in service industries such as banking, securities, laboratories, construction and property, golf courts, luxury shops. Concern is being expressed in Community circles about Japanese " Troyan horse " commercial strategy and the diffusion of Japanese capital in new sectors of the British economy.
