Abstract

This papers features a diachronic study on versified insertions in fictional and epic prosifications, from the 14th- to the 16th-century. Stemming from a previous model or being the creation of a rewriter, a fragment in verse incorporated in a text in prose exemplifies the process of conservation and innovation. Through fourteen rewritings, this study considers three scenarios: the conservation of lyric fragments in verse from the source; the selection and conservation of conversational or descriptive scenes from the source; the creation of lyrics and discourses in verse by the interlingual translator himself. For each poem, the linguistic processing and the layout as well as the potential auctorial contextualisation throw light on the relations between the rewriting and its source. Besides, those insertions foster the renewing of the prosifications and their openness to poems « à forme fixe ».
