Abstract

Jean Bouchet’s Angoysses et remedes de l’amour published in 1536 contains several previously published compositions inserted by the author into the central narrative. These most especially comprised passages from the Amoureux transy sans espoir, which have formerly served as the object of lexicological research. Thus, it is legitimate to choose the Rhétoriqueur’s final poetical work as the base of our investigation on lexicon. In Angoysses et remedes de l’amour, the reader is confronted with an especially rich and innovative vocabulary that comprises hapax legomena, initial attestations, neologisms, and rare word occurrences. Our article enumerates approximately one hundred original lexemes, the semantic analysis of which allows for a better understanding of lexical usages in the writings of post-Renaissance French poets.
