Abstract

French Idéologues facing the coup d'Etat of Brumaire From illusions towards disillusions Jean-Luc Chappey After 1802, French Idéologues (Cabanis and Destutt de Tracy in particular) are victims of the Bonaparte's power although they have been active actors in the creation of the Consulate's regime. The interpretation of this « defeat» is difficult : according to the historiography, they appear often like blinded Intellectuals, unable to think the politic in act. In fact, Idéologues defend a real and original republican project based on a thought about the links between the politic and scientific space. The failure of their project appear as the failure of one republican way which was contained in the coup d'Etat of Brumaire an VIII.
