Abstract

The present work gives the main characteristics of seventeen different forms of ants from the genus Messor, collected in Syria. The authors' have described, drawn and compared those ants. A biometrical table is formed showing the characteristic mean-ratio between the dimensions of different anatomical parts of ten workers from each species or race. Some winged forms and a new Messor are described for the first time. The combination in work, of some bio geographic al notes, previously obtained on Messor from Syria, together with the results of the present collections, will help in knowing the origin of those different species and races and will contribute to understand their relations with Messor from Europe, Africa and Asia.
