Abstract

The excavations carried out on the northern and southern sides of the Rouen cathedral have rendered a quantity of data concerning the history of the cathedral and the episcopal group following the Roman period. Among the major discoveries, we can mention that of a christian basilica dating to the end of the fourth century A.D., doubtlessly the northern church of the episcopal group ; that of a group of eighth and ninth century canonical buildings and part of a Carolingian episcopal palace with a large room decorated with historiated stained glass windows and the supposed hostellery quarters ; that of two tenth century plots, related to an urban reorganisation of the city of Rouen under Norman domination.
