Abstract

Summary. - Chromosome numerations have been performed in Asplenium trichomanes L. and different cytotypes have been identified in living and herbarium material. The diploid type is found on siliceous rocks, but the tetraploid one lives in various habitats. Triploid hybrids are not infrequent and give rise to a few hexaploid plants. The tetraploid form seems to be an autotetraploid derived from the diploid, but further investigations are necessary.
