Abstract

Since its foundation in 1854, French state foresters played an important role in the French botanical Society. Some of them became its president or had a leading part in its land sessions. Many brought a significant contribution to botany sciences, especially to dendrology, even in tropical regions in tree physiology and ecophysiology. Some acted in forest ecology and sociology, in phyo- geography, in xylology, in cryptogamy and pathology and also for nature protection. They wrote scientific articles in particular in the journal of the SBF and even some scientific books for students and searchers or for popularization
