Abstract

The present paper presents elements which are characteristic of both spoken and written language, included in the anonymous work "Aucassin et Nicolette". The text constitutes the only example of chantefable, a literary genre from the 13th century. Chantefable is a written text; however, it evidently includes some features of the oral tradition.
