Abstract

This work highlights the morphological diversity and characteristics that contribute to false identifications of Tamarix (Tamaricaceae) in Morocco. These difficulties of identification explain the controversy over the number of Tamarix species present in Morocco and around the world. Three taxa previously recorded in Morocco are confirmed : T. africana Poiret, T. boveana Bunge and T. aphylla Karst, while T. amplexicaulis Ehrenb could be present in a single station (Merzouga). Concerning other taxa : T. canariensis Willd and T. gallica L., their determination requires further study in view of their similarities.
