Abstract

Self-injury is an intentional injury inflicted on a part of ones own body with no apparent intention to die. Self-injurious behavior is associated with many mental disorders such as schizophrenia, mental retardation and personality disorders. In our country, few studies have been devoted to self-mutilation. Through the study of hospitalized patients in the psychiatric department of the U.H.C. Mohammed of Marrakech , inflicting wounds on themselves, we wish to bring more light with regard to: - The prevalence of self-harm in hospitalized mental patients. - The risk factors involved in self-injurious behaviors. - The epidemiological profile of self-harm in psychiatry.
