Abstract
The symmetry operations of a circular cylinder have been studied by unrolling the cylinder into a plane. All possible classes and their symmetries are given. The seventy-five cylinder groups and, as extreme cases, the groups with infinite-fold cylinder axis and those with an infinite screw pitch are derived and illustrated.
