Abstract

• This contribution aims at drawing a general picture on the part played by libraries in the cultural world of Roman Africa. The high cost of the building, equipment and maintenance of these cultural institutions has helped to the development of a new form of patronage which was not widespread in the Roman World : cultural patronage being linked to the paideia.
