Abstract

Demonstration of soluble nuclei acids in whole blood is a new field of investigation in clinical biology especially in cancerology and prenatal diagnosis. This general review summarizes of recent data on research and applications in this field. In cancerology, recent studies show the probable usefulness of this research. However, it is still too early to realize this examination in routine. Further works need to be done to confirm these initial studies. Concerning prenatal diagnosis, research of foetal DNA in the maternal blood has been demonstrated in two indications, rhesus D genotyping and determination of foetal sec. In both fields, diagnosis of soluble nucleic acids in whole blood seems to be a probable indication in the future. This review summarizes actual knowledge and discuss on possible perspectives (except in microbiology).
