Abstract

The performance of a proximity focusing RICH with aerogel as radiator and PMTs for detection of Cherenkov rings has been studied. The rather large insensitive area in the photon detector plane could be reduced by various optical systems. The present work describes measurements carried out with two such systems: a system of lenses and a system of light guides. The results are in favour of the lens system, which has been tested also with Cherenkov photons.
