Abstract

The Green Hermit Hummingbird, a polytypic trochilid, occurs in Trinidad, eastern Venezuela and from Costa Rica southwards through the Andes to Peru. Behaviour, display and song of lekking males from Yotoco, southwestern Colombia, are analyzed and compared to those of populations from Trinidad and Costa Rica. Strong differences in aerial displays ofPhaethornis guy males from southwestern Colombia support the subspecific status (emiliae) of this taxon.
