Abstract

Owing to the absence of leisure research of vocational school students in Taiwan, the purpose of this study aimed to investigate and examine the major dimensions of leisure constraints and leisure motivations of adolescent students at Da-De Vocational School in Changhua. By using the Leisure Constraints Scale (LCS) (Crawford & Godbey, 1987) and the Leisure Motivation Items (LMI) survey (Beard & Ragheb, 1983), this study investigated vocational high school students' leisure constraints and leisure motivations as applied to the different framework. The study revealed main leisure constraints and leisure motivations of adolescent vocational school students. The findings show that structural constraints are stronger than intrapersonal and interpersonal constraints. As well as the adolescent population has a stronger motivation in competency/mastery aspect than intellectual, social, and stimulus/avoidance factors. This study suggests the government administers and schools student needs for more safe places and facilities for leisure activity, as well as for more leisure opportunities and information. It is also essential to offer leisure education courses in school to help induce student interests and to develop various leisure skills.
