Abstract

Leadership style and the learning organisation. In the present highly competitive environment, it has become increasingly important for organisational leaders to establish a learning organisation. In this study the focus was on the extent of influence that the evolution of organisations, as determined by their relative level of leadership practises (leadership style), has on the establishment of a learning organisation. Opsomming Die daarstel van ’n lerende organisasie deur bedryfsleiers word toenemend belangrik in die hedendaagse hoogskompeterende omgewing. In hierdie studie is gefokus op die mate van beinvloeding wat die evolusie van organisasies, soos deur hul relatiewe vlak van demokratiese leierskapspraktyke (leierskapstyl) bepaal, op die daarstelling van’n lerende organisasie het.

  • Daar is bevind dat die vaardighede wat benut moet word om sodanige organisasie daar te stel, nie noodwendig toeneem of afneem namate organisasies in terme van die vlak van ontwikkeling van demokratiese leierskap verskil nie.’n Lerende organisasie word eerder daargestel wanneer die leiers hul bestaande denkmodelle deurlopend bevraagteken en met nuwe idees eksperimenteer, as wat dit tot stand sal kom as gevolg van ’n evolusieproses wat oor ’n periode van tyd plaasvind

  • In this study the focus was to clarify the contradiction that if leaders inside organisations were in£uenced by the organisation evolution process, this in£uence should be manifested to the extent of the utilisation of the skills required to the establishment of a learning organisation. an organisation with a democratic leadership style should be more susceptible to the implementation of innovative ideas than a more autocratic organisation

  • It was found that the utilisation of the skills required to establish such an organisation, not necessarily increases or decreases as organisations di¡er in terms of their present level of development of democratic leadership

Vir die doeleindes van die onderhawige studie word die term ‘‘leierskapsvaardighede’’ omskryf as die vaardighede waaroor bedryfsleiers moet beskik om deur middel van die benutting van die dissiplines van gedeelde visie, persoonlike bemeestering van die visie, denkmodelle, sisteemdenke en groepleer ’n lerende organisasie tot stand te bring.Visione“ re leierskap gee dus gestalte aan die lerende organisasie. Indien dit wel die geval is, vas te stel of hulle ook van mekaar sal verskil ten opsigte van hul benutting van die leierskapvaardighede wat vereis word om’n lerende organisasie daar te stel.
