Abstract

The whole housing problem is replete with disorderliness. The financing is left at a critical point by the large institutions, this being known as the point of double security, where it is left to be finished by those who drive sharp bargains. Construction methods have little in them that should not be changed. The styles of houses that have been most largely produced, do not have the approval of architects or engineers. The people are still struggling to throw off the yoke of mid-Victorian badness in the East and what may be well styled the “near-Pullman” in the West.
