Abstract
The article discusses the legitimacy of the state as one of the basic concepts that determine the possibility of state stability. In this regard, the approaches to understanding the legitimacy of the state through legal domination are investigated as the most consistently reflecting the tasks of ensuring the stability of society. At the same time, it is understood that the conditions described above are most fully achieved with proper legal formalization of domination, which takes place in the presence of a developed and adopted legal system. The work also shows the stages of the transformation of various types of legitimacy into others as a condition for the development of society. These processes are studied on the basis of M. Weber's works, him being the founder of the study of the theory of legitimacy of the state and law.
