Abstract

Left atrial volume and function are predictive of cardiac death or appropriate device therapy in patients with non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy

Highlights

  • Several small studies have suggested that left atrial enddiastolic volume (LAEDV) is associated with adverse outcomes in patients with non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (NICM)

  • implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD) implantation, presence of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE), LVEF, LAEDV, LA end-systolic volume (LAESV) and LA ejection fraction (LAEF) were significantly associated with the composite outcome

  • Following adjustment for ICD implantation, hazard ratios (HRs) for each of the LA measurements were; LAEDVi: 1.32 per 10 ml/m2, LAESVi: 1.52 per 10 ml/m2 (95%CI 1.21-1.91, p < 0.01), and LAEF: 0.66 per 10% (95%CI 0.50-0.87, p < 0.01)
