Abstract

In a 55-Year-old patient with mitral insufficiency (stad. II–III NYHA), additional atypical syncopal attacks are registered. The echocardiogram shows multiple signals of a tumor behind the anterior leaflet during systole of the atrium. In the cine-angiogram, a pediculate tumor moving toward the valve orifice can be detected. Resection of the tumor and mitral valve replacement using the new bileaflet St. Jude Medical Prosthesis is demonstrated. Histopathologic examination of the tumor shows a hamartoma. Normal hemodynamic parameters are ascertained by recatheterization 6 months postoperatively.
