Abstract

Posterolateral corner knee injuries are currently recognized as an important component of articular instability, occurring more frequently in the context of multiligamentar lesions of the knee. Knowledge of the anatomy and biomechanics is key, and the diagnosis arises from the clinical history and patient examination and should be complemented with a radiography and a magnetic resonance. Depending on injury classification, treatment can be conservative or surgical, and the specific procedure depends on whether the lesion is treated in an acute or chronic setting, and may be a repair, a reconstruction, or an osteotomy. Return to play is one of the most controversial topics and should be considered only after a 6 to 9 months and based on an objective functional assessment with specific testing.
