Abstract

Low energy diffraction studies were performed on Cs layer deposited on Cu(100) faces at room temperature and temperature below 150 K. The Cs coverage varies from 0 to 1 monolayer (ML). For coverage lower than 0.7 ML (0.8 ML), the adsorption is disordered at low (room) temperature. At the monolayer, the overlayer is formed by two kinds of domain with quasi-hexagonal mesh rotated by 90° from each other. In each domain, the Cs[10 1 0] direction is parallel to a Cu[110] direction. Normally to the epitaxial direction, the monolayer mesh is slightly expanded at room temperature and contracted at low temperature.
