Abstract

The organization of carbon monoxide electrosorbed at various coverages on a Pt(111) single-crystal electrode has been studied by using ex situ characterization by low-energy electron diffraction. Two CO structures, ({radical} 3 {times} 3) rect and c({radical} 3 {times} 5) rect, have been identified for saturation and partial coverage, respectively. A third structure, c(4 {times} 2), was observed after prolonged exposure of a saturation coverage of CO to the UHV environment.
