Abstract

As an outgrowth of the recently founded Brooklyn Psychiatric Society's postgraduate education program, this slim volume contains edited tape recordings of lectures given by practicing psychotherapists about general psychiatry. There are lectures by Sandor Lorand, Richard M. Silberstein, Irving Bieber, William G. Niederland, Ludwig Eidelberg, and Nathan M. Ackerman. Included are pertinent questions from the audience with answers from the speakers. Of particular interest is the paper by Niederland about paranoid states. The Society's program is interesting and to be commended. The transcriptions of the lectures contribute little to the current literature, but do represent an approach and attitude of psychiatrists in a general community to postgraduate development, an area of education in which much progress can and should be made.
