Abstract
This chapter discusses representations that enter in the decomposition of the most continuous part of L2(X). They constitute what is known as the principal series for G/H. Firstly, the principal series of representations for G is discussed. The parabolic subgroups which are best suited for the study of G/H are the σθ-stable parabolic subgroups, and the simplest of these are the minimal ones, the σ-minimal parabolic subgroups. There is a well known set of intertwining operators between principal series representations, called the standard intertwining operators.
