Abstract

AbstractThe typification of the Linnaean names Arnica montana and A. montana var. alpina are discussed. Specimens from the Burser Herbarium (UPS) and Royen Herbarium (L) are designated as lectotypes. The name A. gerbera is also investigated and it is shown that the lectotypification by Hansen (sheet No. 1008.1 at LINN) is not effective since the specimen selected is not original material. A Burman illustration is chosen as lectotype for A. gerbera. The supersession of Hansen's typification does not impact the application of the Arnica gerbera (≡ Gerbera linnaei), the conserved type of the genus Gerbera.
