Lectotypification of Andropogon bellariensis, basionym of Parahyparrhenia bellariensis (Andropogoneae, Poaceae)

Abstract

The genus Parahyparrhenia A.Camus (1950: 404) is a small genus belonging to the tribe Andropogoneae Dumortier (1824: 84). It consists of about 6 species, distributed in Africa and Tropical Asia (Clayton et al. 2006), with only one species Parahyparrhenia bellariensis (Hackel 1885: 123) Clayton (1972: 448), found in India (Karthikeyan et al. 1989). P. bellariensis is an extremely rare and very poorly known grass, considered endemic to India (Singh et al. 2015). There is few collection of this species in herbaria, including the type collection made by Wight in the 18th century.
